Group Buy Opportunity

Save as much as 38% !!

I recently purchased one of the popular and well-regarded Arrow Antenna model OSJ 146/440 dual band antennas (see http://www.arrowantennas.com/osj/j-pole.html ).

I am so pleased with the performance, quality, and durability of the antenna that I intend to purchase two more of them. The manufacturer offers a "Special for Radio Clubs", which is a bulk-packaged ten pack at a special price. Therefore, if there are eight local hams interested in participating in a group buy, I will order the ten pack.

For the participants, the final cost for the Arrow Antenna OSJ 146/440 will be $33.00 each, including shipping and handling. That is 38% less than it would cost an individual to order one of this model from the manufacturer ($54.00 including shipping and handling). It is 32% less than it would cost an individual to order one of this antenna from Ham Radio Outlet ($48.90 with shipping and handling).

Following are the ground rules:
The orders must be paid in advance to Todd (AK4TS). If there are not eight paid in advance orders, the group buy will be scrapped.
Payments by cash or check will be $33.00 per antenna. Payments by credit card or debit card will be $34.26 per antenna.
Once the order is received, Todd (AK4TS) will make the antennas available for pickup in Greensboro, NC.
If there are more than eight, but less than eighteen parties that wish to participate, the first eight to pay will be the participants.

If interested in participating in this group buy, please email Todd Smith (AK4TS) at todd@ak4ts.net .

Powerpole power connectors have been adopted by area amateurs as a standard connector for power sources. In case of emergency communications are needed, the connectors make a standard by which power connections will be the same. Listed here is information about the assembly and technical data about the connectors. Visit www.powerwerx.com for information on how to obtain these connectors.

PowerWerx recommends that the housings should be mated according to the diagram above, viewing from the contact side (opposite the wire side), tongue down, hood up, RED on the LEFT, BLACK on the RIGHT. PowerWerx supplies a 3/32-inch-diameter roll pin, 1/4 inch long, to keep the housings from sliding apart.

Note: Some organizations assemble the connector housings opposite of the above. Check with your local organization / group for the local "standard".

Highly conductive silver-plated copper contacts allow minimal contact resistance at high currents. Self-wiping action on make and break keeps conducting surfaces clean. Contact dents keep connectors mated in high-vibration applications and provide quick-break, snap action upon disconnect.

Non-corrosive stainless-steel leaf springs maintain constant contact pressure‹ideal for frequent connections/disconnections and intermittent overloading. Durable, high impact-resistant, polycarbonate housing with UL94V-2 flammability ratings comes in many colors for circuit trace ability and coding.

Identical connector halves are genderless‹making assembly quick and easy and reducing the number of parts stocked. Molded-in dovetails allow for customized harness in a variety of configurations.

The 30-ampere contacts are designed for 12-16 AWG wire. The contacts can be soldered or crimped to wires. A very expensive crimping tool is available from Anderson (we offer a very inexpensive alternative that does just as good a job). After a contact has been attached to a wire, it should be installed into the housing so that the housing spring mates with the underside of the contact. When you slide it completely in the housing you should hear a click when it passes the spring detent.

To remove a contact from the housing, use Anderson insertion/extraction tool #111038G2. You may also substitute a very small blade (jewelers screwdriver or X-Acto knife) to lift up the front of the contact slightly over the detent and pull the contact out of the rear of the housing, allowing the contact to be removed.

BREAKING NEWS

It's "Time" to Change That Dial - CHU Moves Frequency

Canadian time/frequency standard station CHU -- a fixture for decades on 7335 kHz -- will change frequency to 7850 kHz at 0000 UTC on January 1, 2009. The move comes as a result of the International Telecommunication Union's decision in 2007 to expand the 40-meter ham band in Europe and Africa (Region I) to 7000-7200 kHz. It was previously 7000-7100 kHz, with -- as every 40-meter DXer knows -- international broadcasting allocated from 7100-7300 kHz. As part of the 40-meter expansion, the international broadcast band was shifted to 7200-7350 kHz.

As broadcasters began relocating, CHU on 7335 began experiencing significant interference. Thus, officials at Canada's National Research Council, which operates CHU, decided to move the time/frequency standard station's transmissions to 7850 kHz as of the beginning of 2009.
The complete NRC announcement (English version) is online

The Feed Line first reported in a special feature about CHU making the possible move in the January, 2007 issue
