HF Operating Event

Open to all hams!

GARA will be hosting an HF operating event from 8:30am until 4:30pm on Saturday, March 19 at the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park in Greensboro.  This event will be somewhat informal in that you’re encouraged to bring your own portable HF gear to setup and work alongside everyone else!  We will be located near the General Greene monument off of Old Battleground Avenue near the front of the park (Tour Stop #8 near the parking lot).

Since this will be set in a park, we will all operate “POTA-style” with portable radios, antennas and power, but we will all use a common callsign.  If you already activate parks as part of POTA, you can claim credits for stations that you work!  Come anytime throughout the day, set up your radio and have some fun.  We will coordinate who is operating where and when to make sure we don’t interfere with each other.  Feel free to invite other hams too – it isn’t an event only meant for GARA members – and we would love to have as many people participate as possible.

Press release:  The Battle of Guilford Courthouse was on March 15th, 1781 at a site that is now Greensboro, the seat of Guilford County, North Carolina. Every year there is a fabulous reenactment of the battle which shows that the British troops technically won this battle, but it was a significant turning point in the war.

We will be operating on location at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park (POTA K-0718) and we will be using the frequencies of 3.810 (March ‘81) and 7.1781 (1781) to commemorate the significance of this battle not only locally, but nationally and even globally as the United States of America later went on to victory and establish herself as a force for freedom throughout the world.

Thanks, and we hope to see you there!
